Item Description

Here we have an aesthetic group of the rare hydrated magnesium borate species, Inderite from Boron, California. Some of the finest examples of the species ever found have come from this area. These crystals actually come out of the ground colorless and gemmy, but they turn a chalky white color upon exposure to the outside air, and according to a post from Rock Currier on mindat.org, "The white mineral can be removed by soaking them in water for a few minutes". This is a very good group featuring fine, sharp, well-formed prismatic crystals, free of matrix. The tan crystals cluster are likely Kurnakovite. I can't stress the quality enough especially for a piece this size, and these are hard to find on the market now. Don't miss out on this wonderful specimen of this desirable and classic material. For reference, this piece was likely collected by Jim Minette.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
