impressive Tourmaline var Rubellite ex Jack Halpern

Item Description

At 248 grams, this is a robust, magenta-red piece of tourmaline history, dating to the famous Alto Ligonhe district. Jack purchased this in the early 1970s, among the first tourmalines in his vast collection which at its height numbered nearly 4000 pieces. To this day, old material from here has remained rare and hard to obtain. This is from 1970 or before. With a little backlight, it positively glows (three different levels of low, medium, and strong backlighting are shown in the photos). It has minor dings and wear on some edges, but not enough to visually detract in any meaningful way. It is just gorgeous in a case - a massive red tourmaline, from a place you just never see survivors from. In that time, especially, these were still mostly cut up for carving material. 248 grams.
