Item Description
A remarkable and rich OLD-TIME wulfenite from the famous Red Cloud Mine. The piece comes with a University of Chicago Department of Geology label # 1504. The Department was started in 1890s, so the piece undoubtedly dates to prior to World War I. This impressive 360-degree mounded piece is dominated by the striking, dramatically set 2.6 x 2.3 cm prism with the stepped-growth chisel termination. The numerous crystals have rich orange-red color, glassiness, high lustrous and translucence. The front of the large crystal is essentially pristine, with the bit of edge wear on the back of the upper termination being out-of-sight. A wire loop set in plaster used for mounting is attached to the base. Formerly in the Charles Noll Collection # 2093, a prominent Wisconsin collector, who passed away in 2014. RARE, excellent and desirable Red Cloud wulfenite, as documented old specimens are SELDOM on the market. A classic old Red Cloud wulfenite valued at $2500. Or more. THis has a color and style you DO NOT SEE from modern finds
