Item Description
Impressive and sculptural large specimen of densely intergrown, highly lustrous, jet-black, columnal ilvaite crystals with wedge-shaped terminations from the now-famous, remote Huanggang mines. One side at the base is nicely complemented with sprays of lustrous Hedenbergite blades and small quartz points. The imposing frontal view is in good shape, with only a minimally detracting 1.4 cm contact, where another crystal once lay. The mostly out-of-sight attachment on the back is composed of hedenbergite and quartz. Huanggang ilvaite is considered to be the world's finest and this is a showy and highly representative large example of the species and locale.
