Ilvaite (rare faceted stone)

Ilvaite is an uncommon mineral species, but as a gemstone, it's rather rare. The habit of Ilvaite crystals tends to be rather thin and slender, so it's not easy to find a crystal thick enough to actually facet. This particular stone is really quite large for a faceted Ilvaite, so the piece of rough from which it was cut must have been fairly substantial. Not only is it a large gem, but it's from the classic Greek locality on Serifos Island, where some of the most iconic crystals of the species have been found. This "emerald" cut gem is a stark jet black hue and is completely opaque, but what really makes it valuable is the fact that is it incredibly consistent throughout, with no heavy cracks to be seen (only very slight surface imperfections). A significant gem, and an important rare stone to add to any collection. You may never seen another Ilvaite of this size and quality from Serifos Island, so don't miss out!
