Item Description

Highly lustrous, striated jet-black ilvaite prisms with sharp chisel terminations generously cover the two-sided matrix plate nicely accented with a few beta-style, hexagonal quartz crystals. The impressive upright ilvaite is 2.0 cm long and the broad flat-lying crystal is 2.1 cm long. The back of this two-sided rib hosts a nice bonus, as glassy, tiny quartz points are included with green hedenbergite or chlorite and accented with light brown platy clays. The world's finest ilvaites came from the famed Dalnegorsk mines in the early 1990s, prior to the discovery of superb ilvaites from the Chinese Huanggang Mine in the early 2010s and this is a fine example. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. Herb valued this rich and choice combination at $800, more than 8 years ago. It is worth $1000-1250 today.
