Item Description
A choice and very showy, miniature sized specimen of Ilvaite from the classic locality at Dalnegorsk. This attractive piece is a thick, jet-black, lustrous prismatic crystal with a selective overgrowth of tiny Quartz crystals. The piece is in good shape, though the back edge is not complete, where it separated from the pocket wall. The piece is not repaired either, which is significant for this material, as many Dalnegorsk Ilvaites had to be glued back together. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
