Item Description
A unique combination piece from this amazingly complex pegmatite locality featuring a BRAZILIAN ILMENITE - quite a rarity! At first you see the beautiful green titanite - gemmy, lime green, translucent, crystals to 3cm; and only after do you realize that they in turn sit upon a large 7.5cm, splendent, silvery-gray ilmenite crystal. I have not seen another such combo. Ex. Paulo Matioli collection, and perhaps self collected. Initially, we believed this to be hematite, but Dr. Ricardo Scholz, Ouro Preo University, reached out to let us know that he "analyzed a sample from the same locality looking like yours and I found an association of ilmenite and titanite." Unique!
