Item Description

A rare and sharp pseudomorph from this obscure locale in Turkey. The textbook trapezohedral Leucite crystal (a Feldspathoid species) has been replaced by cream-colored Illite, a clay-like varietal of Muscovite. A complete all-around and pristine floater, with just a bit of embedded matrix on the back. These were originally sold as Orthoclase (Feldspar) after Leucite. X-ray diffraction studies by the Czech Geological Survey in 1999 showed that the major replacement material is Illite. Ex Bill and Anne Cook Collection. A very fine and rare pseudomorph from this uncommon locale.
