Item Description
The Hydrozincites from the Yellow Pine Mine are some of the best examples of the species from any locality in the United States. They were actually the primary zinc ore at this now abandoned Pb-Zn-Ag-Cu-Au-Hg-Sb mine. This piece features a beautiful crystallized vug on the front loaded with brilliant white "needles" of Hydrozincite and if you flip the piece over you can see several eye-catching radial "sprays" of the same material which are partially coated by crystallized brownish-grey "bursts" of translucent Hemimorphite. Very attractive in person, and the Hydrozincites GLOW with an electric blue color under UV light. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. The piece is accompanied by a label from Josef Vajdak, noted rare species dealer from Massapequa, New York.
