Item Description
A cool specimen from the world-famous locality. Hydrozincite forms in the oxidation zones of zinc deposits as masses or crusts. This is a very rich specimen from Mapimi that is actually quite attractive, where little snowy balls of the mineral have formed in on the surface of a contrasting matrix of Limonite. The piece shows beautiful fluorescence under UV light. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand written label from Wulff that simply says "Hydrozincite Mapimi, Mex.".
