Hydrozincite (ex Willard Wulff Collection)

A cool specimen from the world-famous locality. Hydrozincite forms in the oxidation zones of zinc deposits as masses or crusts. This is a very rich specimen from Mapimi that is actually quite attractive, where little snowy balls of the mineral have formed in on the surface of a contrasting matrix of Limonite. The piece shows beautiful fluorescence under UV light. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. The piece comes with a hand written label from Wulff that simply says "Hydrozincite Mapimi, Mex.".
