Hydroxylherderite (twin) (ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection)

An attractive and unusual specimen of soft beige colored Hydroxylherderite the Golconda Mine in Brazil. The piece is fine quality, sharp, lustrous, well-formed "fishtail"-twin sitting on a thin layer of Feldspar matrix. The piece is complete all around with no major damage (only tiny imperfections). The color is odd to be sure, possibly due to a bit of alteration on the surface(?). Very attractive and a worthwhile pickup for anybody who collects this kind of material. These are old, dating back a few decades, and you never see them on the market anymore. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
