Item Description

Here we have an unusual but still eye-catching specimen of soft beige colored Hydroxylherderite from the Golconda Mine in Brazil. The piece features a few sharp, well-formed some what compressed crystals, free of matrix. The piece is complete on top, and even the bottom is partially crystallized, so I can't find any major damage, just some small imperfections. The color is odd to be sure, possibly due to a bit of alteration on the surface (?). These are old, dating back a few decades, and you never see them on the market anymore. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
