Item Description

Hydroxylherderite is known from a fair number of pegmatite localities around the world, but the crystals are often muted in color, or completely colorless. Roughly 50 years ago, Brazil produced some beautiful purple crystals, but they are incredibly hard to find on the market now. In the mid 2000s, the finest examples of green Hydroxylherderite were found in Pakistan, but only a few pockets were found. These fantastic crystals are about as rich as the color gets for the species, and is one of the rarest of Pakistan pegmatite species in specimen form. This wonderful large thumbnail / toenail sized piece is a very sharp, lustrous, well-formed, gemmy, beautiful green color crystal, free of matrix. There are some minor black striated prisms of what I presume to be Schorl on the back of the piece. The crystal is in good condition on the front/display side, but it's not 100% complete on the back. No more of these crystals have been found in several years, so if you collect gem crystals, pegmatite minerals, or minerals of Pakistan, don't miss out on this wonderful and richly colored example of this now hard to find material. Ex Herb Obodda specimen.
