Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Hydroxylapatite (possibly the rare variety Carbonate-rich Hydroxylapatite) from the famous Bennett Quarry in Maine, which is best known for its attractive pegmatite minerals, including less common species like Hydroxylherderite and even minerals like Rhodochrosite! This piece features a pair of fairly well-formed, lustrous, hexagonal partial crystals of Hydroxylapatite measuring up to 9 mm on light pinkish colored Feldspar matrix. The Apatites have a dark green hue, and show slight translucency when backlit. The Apatites are not fully terminated, but this piece is more about the rare species and the locality than anything else. From the collection of Shields Flynn.
