Item Description

An extremely fine, rich and showy combination from the first great find in 1953 from this well-known Traprock quarry, source of the finest US apophyllites. A 3.5 x 2.5 cm cluster of glassy, tabular apophyllite spearpoints is aesthetically set on the mounded matrix of glassy mint-green prehnite crystals. Glassy colorless, blocky tetragonal apophyllites richly cover one face of the prehnite ridge. Extensive cream-colored fields of silky needles of the uncommon Ettringite Group species thaumasite add color and contrast to this rare and outstanding example from an East Coast collection. Comes with a Hugh Ford label, dating from 1946-57. The piece has several fine display views.
