The famous Fairfax Quarry in far northern Virginia (just west of the town of Centreville) is the source of arguably the finest crystals of any Apophyllite species from any locality in the United States. These specimens have been properly identified now as Hydroxyapophyllite-(K) (not Fluorapophyllite as was previously thought), and they are superb in their size, quality and form. What makes these specimens so desirable is not only the noteworthy size, but the fact that the crystals form in these gorgeous "flower"-like groups that are certainly unlike most other Apophyllites you'll see from anywhere else. This gorgeous small cabinet features a group of large, sharp, thick, blocky, lustrous, well-formed, off-white colored crystals of Hydroxyapophyllite-(K) measuring up to 4.8 cm on edge forming a beautiful crystallized "rose"-esque group free of matrix. The display side of the piece is in superb condition, with no major damage that I can find. These old classics are incredibly hard to find on the market these days, and this one is certainly a very good display quality specimen that would make a fine addition to any collection.
