Item Description
RARE, old and exceptional fluorite and galena from the less well-known Rosiclare Sub-District of Hardin County. MINDAT lists 13 galena localties in the Sub-District, but features NO galena photos in the gallery! Intergrown, lustrous, metallic compound galena cubes are fantastically festooned with isolated, beautiful, gemmy, color-zoned violet fluorite cubes and dramatically crowned by much larger fluorites, to 2.0 cm. A SURPRISE is that UV lighting shows the white fluorescence of hydrocarbons included in the cubes! The Filers label dates from 1949-56. The aesthetics and colors of this old-time combination rarity are outstanding. Valued at $1500-1750.
