Item Description

Exceptional, extremely large Hyalite Opal from the famous Erongo Mountains. Often, Hyalite Opal is found in small amounts accenting other specimens, but here it is the dominant mineral, and superb. The Opal is massive (like over 5 cm in thickness massive!), and coats many of the Schorl crystals in the specimen. Interestingly, the Opal is actually terminated in very fine acicular growths in which the fine needles create 3 cm florets like a cauliflower head. Really outstanding for the species. The equally impressive Schorls are lustrous, and in slender crystals up to about 7 cm long. One of the finest of these specimens I have ever seen. And, as a bonus, it has incredible fluorescence, too. ex Charlie Key Collection.
