Item Description
This famous Peru mine is well-known for excellent combination specimens including rare huchinsonite, orpiment and other species. This is a fine, showy and rich combination example. Hutchinsonite is a rare thallium, lead, arsenic sulfosalt. Lustrous, metallic-gray lathes and sprays of hutchinsonite are scattered on the sculptural matrix, which includes nubby masses of sparkly burnt-orange orpiment and an accenting corner field of sharp, glassy, barite blades. The underlying matrix is pyrite and quartz. Choice, showy and rare combination material from the famous Quiruvilca Mine. Collected in the late 1970s and early 1980s, these are considered to be the world's finest examples of this very rare species.
