Item Description

The finest specimens of this rare Thallium, Lead, Arsenic sulfosalt come from this mine, and this piece is no exception as it has some fine quality crystals. The species is named after Dr. Arthur Hutchinson (1866-1937), who was a mineralogy professor at Cambridge. The piece hosts individual crystals and crystal "sprays" of sharp, metallic, lustrous Hutchinsonite which are associated with beautiful white "rosettes" of bladed Baries plus orange "bursts" of Orpiment on matrix. It is a good quality Hutchinsonite thumbnail specimen. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand written label from Wulff on the bottom of the "Perky" box where it says it was acquired in 1990.
