Item Description
The finest specimens of Hutchinsonite were found at the Quiruvilca Mine in Peru several decades ago. These pieces are well-known among experienced collectors, but are rarely available on the market today. Hutchinsonite is a rare thallium, lead, arsenic sulfosalt, named after Dr. Arthur Hutchinson (1866-1937), who was a mineralogy professor at Cambridge. The piece is an excellent small cabinet featuring dozens of individual crystals and crystal "sprays" of sharp, metallic, lustrous Hutchinsonite which are associated with orange "bursts" of Orpiment with minor Quartz on matrix. The largest Hutchinsonite crystal measures 7 mm. The piece is fun to view up close, but it also displays quite well on a shelf in a display case, which is not commonly seen in this material.
