Item Description
Hureaulite is a rare and beautiful manganese phosphate was named in 1825 after the type locality, a village in France by the name of Hureaux. Arguably the best and most well-known samples are those from the Joca£o pegmatite in Brazil with their glowing electric orange-pink color crystals in larger sized crystals (most other Hureaulites are micro crystals from various localities around the world). This piece is a superb, classic display specimen of Hureaulite featuring notably sharp, lustrous, translucent, vibrant orange-pink colored monoclinic crystal groups. The largest cluster of crystals measures 8 mm long. The matrix is features a dark mineral (most likely Rockbridgeite or possibly Phosphosiderite(?)). No real damage to the Hureaulites, and they look beautiful close up. A very worthwhile specimen of this hard to find material, from arguably the best location for the species in terms of the size and color of the crystals. From the collection of Rolando Gioia (a contributor to new definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil").
