Item Description

Hummerite is a rare hydrated potassium magnesium vanadate, found mostly in localities in the United States (it has only been reported from four mines outside of the US). This piece is from the type locality and was mined in the 1950s. It features classic, lustrous orange colored micro crystals on host rock matrix. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect rarities or minerals from the type locality, this is a must have as specimens were all mined out 50+ years ago, and will never be found again as the mine is completely defunct. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1804). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
