Item Description
Hulsite is an ultra rare iron, magnesium, tin borate and this rich and showy old-time combination specimen is from the hulsite Type Locality in Alaska. I have had only 3 of them in the past 20 years, all from museum collections. A 2.0-cm magnetite crystal is focal point for the eye but mixed within the matrix are small tabular, blackish-brown crystals and exposed portions, nicely scattered on the matrix of green idocrase (old synonym for vesuvianite) and massive quartz. Very rare and seldom available. Ex Charles Velte Collection. Velte had a storehouse of incredible old rarities and the collection dates to the early to mid 1900s.
