Item Description

A superb and RARE large old specimen with two dramatically intergrown, HUGE for the locale meionite crystals. The sharply terminated tetragonal crystals are a moderately lustrous, mottled grayish-brown. The impressive, stout frontal crystal is 9.8 cm tall and striking "smokestack" crystal is 8.1 cm tall. Meionite is a Tectosilicate and a member of the Scapolite Group. The obscure La Panchita Mine of Oaxaca produced fine augite, zircon and meionite in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection No. 9131 and acquired in 1998 from Daniel Trinchillo of DeTrin Minerals. The piece displays well without aid. VERY RARE and exceptional older specimen with large meionite crystals from the locale.
