Hübnerite with Fluorite on Quartz

Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous Hübnerites from the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, where the largest examples of the species have been found in the state. This piece is not from the more famous Adams Mine, but rather the nearby Yukon Mine featuring foliated groups of dark reddish-brown Hübnerite measuring up to 1.7 cm long, associated with a small gemmy, pale green Fluorite crystals on white Quartz matrix. The piece is in fairly good condition overall, though there are some contacted areas on the Hübnerite crystals, so it's not completely pristine. It's a big showy piece, and the Fluorite association makes it more enticing than if it were Hübnerite alone. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
