Hubnerite with Fluorite, Calcite

Hubnerite is not common from the Yaogangxian Mine because Ferberite, the iron end-member of the group is more ubiquitous there. The shape and slight reddish tone indicate this is not the more black ferberite end member of this group of related minerals. This piece consists of a contrasting combo of tight, parallel growth, bladed Hubnerite crystals to 6.3 cm almost surrounded at the base by lustrous, colorless, cubic Fluorite crystals that are accompanied by a couple of white, 1 cm, translucent Calcite discs. A robust, unusual sulphide specimen from this famous locality, perhaps the most productive of all Chinese mines for specimens. However, this species is rare there, and this is a really large and robust crystal for the location from old finds (1990s).
