Item Description

VERY RARE, rich and showy hubnerite from this famous greisen vein-type tin-tungsten deposit, closed in 1990. MINDAT does not list the species for the locale, but we defer to Kay Robertson, a recognized Europe expert. Highly lustrous, striated tabular lathes, to 1.1 cm, are festooned jackstraw-style on the striking arrowhead-shaped small cabinet matrix plate. Many of the crystals light up with classic wine-red color under bright light and there are even a few spots of cherry-red translucence! Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3555 and acquired from fellow well-known California collector, Marion Godshaw, in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A rare, perhaps UNIQUE hubnerite from this famous locale with multiple display views.
