Hübnerite on interesting Quartz ''cast'' (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

From the find around 2008 that produced some of the finest quality Hubnerite crystals ever found. Though the crystals are not the largest ever seen from this locality, they are remarkably sharp, and well-formed with good luster. This piece hosts bladed crystals of Hubnerite with good crystal form sitting among GEM quality, colorless, thin, prismatic Quartz crystals. The largest Hubnerite measures 2.7 cm. If you flip the piece over, you can see the Quartz has formed a really cool-looking "cast" after an unknown mineral. I can't remember seeing a piece quite like this, though I have to believe there are other "casts" from this discovery. No real damage that I can see with the naked eye, though some of the Hubnerite crystals are not fully crystallized and almost look "etched". With strong backlighting, you can get just a bit of blood-red color to come through, but most of the Hubnerites are essentially opaque. Valued at $800. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
