Hubeite (Type Locality) with Inesite & Apophyllite on Quartz

Item Description

Very rich and sculptural, large two-sided Hubeite combination from from this well-known skarn-type iron-copper mine in Hubei Province, the Type Locality - Fengjiashan Mine. The piece has a decided biomorphic, bird-like aspect, with the large head and beak, folded wings and broad tail. The front is festooned with lustrous golden-brown to dark brown Hubeite blades with subsidiary tan-pink Inesite blades and druzy white Apophyllite. The matrix and back is dramatically different, being striking jackstraw sprays of lustrous, translucent, milky quartz points. Hubeite was not identified and named until 2001. Hubeite is a VERY RARE hydrated Ca-Mn-Fe-silicate and is found at only three worldwide localities (MINDAT). Ex Chet Lemanski Collection #18131CL and acquired in 2002. An outstanding, classic, older and very rich large two-sided combination of the rare species. The piece diplays well without aid.
