Hubeite, Quartz and Chalcopyrite

Item Description

A large, ornate and quite showy specimen containing Hubeite from the Fengiashan Mine, China out of the Kurt Hefendehl collection. These come from the type locality circa 2000, and were sold before the species Hubeite was named. A glistening plate of glassy, see-through Quartz crystals from 5 mm to 3.2 cm are embellished with numerous clusters of scintillating, brown-red Hubeite crystals from 1 to 5 mm in size on one end. Hubeite is a rare calcium-manganese-iron silicate hydrate and the Fengiashan Mine is the type locality for the species. The Hubeite formed late in the paragenesis subsequent to the Quartz and Chalcopyrite. The Chalcopyrite adds to the aesthetics of this attractive combination piece, occurring as metallic brass yellow-greenish tetrahedral and modified tetrahedral crystals scattered between the Quartz crystals in places. It is a very colorful and rare combination specimen that is also very eye-catching! These are worth their weight in gold in China as they try to buy them back these days.
