Item Description
This piece came labeled as coming from a locality called Schmalzgrube in Marienberg, but I can't find a listing for this specific locality, so we're just leaving it Marienberg. The piece is a sold group of dark greenish black, prismatic, fairly thick crystals free of matrix. It's more of a reference specimen, but it's honestly the first and old piece of Hornblende that we've ever had to offer from this locality, so it's a rarity in terms of its origin. A great piece to add to an amphibole collection. It should be noted that Hornblende is no longer a valid species, and this piece is either Ferro-hornblende or Magnesio-hornblende, but it would need analysis to know its true identity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3258). The piece is accompanied by a label from Harvard University stating that it came from the Pearse Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
