Item Description

The Broken Hill Mine of Zambia easily produced the world's finest specimens of hopeite and parahopeite. They are rare hydrated Zn-phosphates and are dimorphs. Sharp, oxide-coated, orthorhombic hopeite crystals to 5 mm richly cover the upper face of the very sculptural boxwork matrix. Tiny triclinic parahopeite blades (Type Locality) are festooned in all of the many vugs. An exceptionally rich and uncommon combination of the species from this famous locale. Such pieces came out in the 1950 or 60s, or earlier. Ex Matioli Collection.
