Item Description
Holdawayite is an ultra rare hydrated carbonate found at only three localities worldwide. This SUPER rich piece of essentially solid holdawayite is from the famous Type Locality - the Kombat Mine of Namibia. The sculptural specimen is composed of moderate-luster, sooty black, lamellar crystals. Scattered about are tiny yellow clusters of allactite, a very rare hydroxyl manganese phosphate and a couple of larger fragments of manganoan calcite. These species have been X-rayed for confirmation and then sight-confirmed as well by an expert in the field for me. It is certainly not pretty to look at, but what can you say? Ultra rare!
