Heulandite with Prehnite (ex Brian Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

This Trap Rock locality is one of the most impressive (and under appreciated) localities in the world. This quarry has produced some amazing specimens in the last 100 years. This specimen features pearly, very lustrous, white colored groups of Heulandite crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm with spherical gemmy green Prehnite sitting on Quartz on matrix. The Heulandite crystals are extremely attractive with excellent luster and good form. Interestingly, the underside of the piece is hollow / cavernous and is not solid basalt like we're used to seeing, so perhaps this piece formed as a "cast" or pseudomorph after a preexisting mineral which later dissolved away. You don't see many specimens of this material on the market these days, especially since the quarry is finished and will never produce these specimens again.
