Item Description
A classic specimen of Heulandite (likely Heulandite-Ca) from what might be the most famous trap rock quarry in the history of New Jersey mineral collecting. The famed, and now-closed Prospect Park Quarry dates back to 1901 and continued production into the early 2010s before it was closed and filled in to make room for a housing development. This locality is well-known for its zeolites and Prehnite specimens, and this piece is a beautiful small cabinet sized display piece featuring soft pink colored, pearly groups of Heulandite measuring up to 1.7 cm, associated with minor white crystals of Laumontite (labeled erroneously as Pectolite) on basalt matrix. Associated Calcite can be seen on the underside of the piece as well. Showy and good sized, and you will never see any more specimens from this locality again, so don't miss out while they're still available. From the collection of Gerry Morvell (#GM 1019A)
