Heulandite (rare locality specimen)

Item Description

A very rarely seen specimen of Heulandite (the specific species is not known) from Gobbins (the type locality for Gobbinsite) in Northern Ireland. The crystals have a distinctive and eye-catching earthy red color, measuring up to 7 mm, sitting on basalt matrix. They almost remind me of crystals I've seen from the Trento Province (Trentino) in northern Italy. The piece is in good condition, with little damage to the central crystals, but the periphery is contacted where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. This specimen comes from the collection of Lee Peterson of Creede, Colorado, and originally was in the collection of H. J. Foy.
