Item Description

Pearlescent fans of pretty salmon-pink to colorless heulandite blades cover the thin basalt matrix on this important old specimen from Iceland. Before India, these Icelandic zeolites set the standard and were considered both superb specimens and a mark of the sophisticated collector. Crystals reach 5.0 cm on this historic specimen from the Geological Museum - Copenhagen. The accompanying label indicates a 1883 date, so this piece is 128 years old! This is an outstanding heulandite even compared to modern Indian material, although it's a major rarity and classic. Once upon a time, THESE were the specimens upon which studies of the economically important zeolite species were conducted. valued highly
