Item Description
Heterosite is a member of the Triphylite Group and Heterosite-Purpurite Series. The species of this series are secondary minerals formed by oxidation of iron and or manganese with the simultaneous leaching of lithium from primary phosphates (precursors). This is a huge and rare, equant, orthorhombic crystal with moderate luster and pretty lavender color. It is very rare from this particular Palermo pegmatite and this is a huge crystal from the mine owners collection. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection # 4272, with a 1998 date.
