Item Description

Heteromorphite is a rare Pb-Sb sulfosalt. Splendent, acicular needles and sparkly, platy-dendritic, microcrystals in a thick crust cover the granular sulfide matrix. MINDAT does not list heteromorphite as a species occurring in the famous St. Andreasberg District of the Harz Mountains of Lower Saxony, as does the older German label. Most likely, the piece is from one of two ancient mines in the Harzgerode of the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt. Probably from the 1800s, but no proof. From an old museum collection.
