Hetaerolite (ex Rich Kosnar and Pat Gross Collections)

Item Description

Hetaerolite is a fairly uncommon tetragonal zinc manganese oxide, and Hodgkinsonite is a very rare manganese, zinc silicate found only in the Franklin Mining District of New Jersey. This piece is from the well knonwn New Jersey collection of Rich Kosnar and features small, black crystals of Hetaerolite on typical Franklin matrix. The specimen came to Rich from this mentor Frances P. (Pat) Gross. I have photographed the crystals under the microscope to better illustrate their quality. A very cool micro specimen of this hard to find material.
