Item Description

This specimen is part of the 2020 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!

Billing for this auction will occur on Monday, August 24, for payment using PayPal or credit card. Shipping will be billed at cost, or please contact brandy@mineralauctions.com if you'd like to plan on picking up items at future shows or during a stop through Dallas.

A beautiful assembly of several hundred (!!!) crystals of 'Herkimer Diamond' style quartz, to 2 cm in size. There may be more -- we stopped counting! What is really neat about this collection is that it comes from the collection, (with his original label), of one of the original mineral collectors who helped make these so famous among other mineral collectors. The old Rocks & Minerals issue with this is from 1937, and features a cute little article by WJJ Hollister on the joys of discovery among a jar of Herkimer quartz crystals. Very cool provenance, and even aside from that, you get several hundred gem Herkimers! Approximately 400 grams (about 1 pound in weight) of crystals here. Valued $1000-1500.
