Item Description
A sculptural meteorite from Australia with moderate luster, a rich mottled burnished brown fusion crust and fine form. The Henbury meteorite comprises many fragments of an asteriod that impacted an area in Northern Australia about 4200 years ago. The craters (13 to 14 small ones) were discovered in 1899, but were not investigated until 1930. The area is now the Henbury Meteorites Conservation Preserve. It is classified as a nickel-iron meteorite with a medium octahedrite structure. 65 grams. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and purchased at the 1985 Mineralogcial Record silent auction at Tucson. The wooden base is a classic.
