Item Description
A sculptural meteorite from Australia. It has a biomorphic, fish-like shape. One face is lustrous, rich burnished brown with sharp form. The back shows the curved, fluted shape of the edges and has a mottled, rust-red color. The Henbury meteorite comprises many fragments of an asteriod that impacted an area in Northern Australia about 4200 years ago. The craters (13 to 14 small ones) were discovered in 1899, but were not investigated until 1930. The area is now the Henbury Meteorites Conservation Preserve. It is classified as a nickel-iron meteorite with a medium octahedrite structure. 66 grams. Ex Ed Ruggiero Collection.
