Hemimorphite (RARE locality specimen)

Item Description

An incredibly hard to find specimen of Hemimorphite from the Shaimerden Zn deposit in Kazakhstan. This is the first specimen of this material that we've had to offer. Several "rosette"-esque clusters which measure up to 1.2 cm across comprise thin white bladed crystals of Hemimorphite, which are scattered over the underlying matrix. If you look very closely, you can see tiny dark grey depositions of Galena on certain faces of the crystals, (see the specimen from Pavel Kartashov at https://www.mindat.org/photo-339415.html for reference) and the golden-brown crystals appear to be Siderite. No major damage that I can find. A really interesting oddball locality specimen that is certainly unlike anything we've had to offer from Kazakhstan. Valued $950.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#671 R), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
