Hemimorphite on Smoky Quartz

Highly unusual, this attractive and hefty cabinet specimen features Hemimorphite that richly coats crystals of Smoky Quartz. The Quartz is a virtual half-pineapple, contacted on the back with 1-2 cm Smoky Quartz crystals growing in all other directions. These Smokies were then completely covered by radiating, 2 mm Hemimorphite crystals that range from light blue to a vivid and deep sky-blue. Really quite lovely, the effect is almost like a cross between a nest of Robin's eggs and coral. A number of the Smokies have been exposed, nonetheless they are in very good condition, with only very tiny dings on some of the crystals and just one bruised termination (in pic). Pieces like this are rare, and it offers an interesting, uncommon combination with an equally uncommon aesthetic. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. This is an unusual older find, not the same as modern material from Yunnan or Guangdong, which does not occur on smoky quartz.
