Item Description

This is definitely a highly unusual and two-sided piece from the Ojuela Mine; with one side dominated by Hemimorphite and the other by Mimetite showing several generations of growth. The limonite matrix the two minerals are set on can be seen from the Mimetite side where numerous, glistening, yellow to brown-yellow Mimetite balls from 1 to 2.5 mm are scattered everywhere (and upon an earlier generation of larger, more muted mimetite that provides shape beneath, and quite a bit of weight to this specimen). On the other side, the piece is shockingly different and you would never think it was the same specimen at first: absolutely bristling with hundreds of glistening crystals of Hemimorphite. The Hemimorphites diverge everywhere and consist of pearly, translucent, thinly bladed prismatic crystals averaging 5 mm in length. This is a beautiful example of both Hemimorphite and Mimetite from this classic locality from its heyday in the 1970s-1980s.
