Hemimorphite (excellent color)

A wonderful piece is from the famous Sa Duchessa Mine in Sardinia, a classic zinc-lead-copper deposit, world renowned for its intense blue Hemimorphites. These old world Hemimorphites with their intense color, are arguably the most well-known historic blue Hemimorphites ever found. Similar contemporary specimens have been found in localities in China and the Congo, but these old Sardinian specimens will always remain as classics, highly desirable and valuable on the market. With that said, this piece features a coverage of botryoidal, translucent, beautiful blue colored "balls" of Hemimorphite sitting minor oxidized matrix. It's a rich specimen and the edges glow with color with back lighting. If you look at the side, you can see how the Hemimorphite was deposited in layers, which alternate between the strong blue (copper-bearing) hue and virtually white shades. No damage outside of the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. Valued $1,500. For reference, the Sa Duchessa Mine dates back to 1870, and closed in 1971, so this piece is a MINIMUM of 50 years old. Ex Colin Manlove Collection.
