Hemimorphite (Copper-bearing) (large specimen)

Item Description

A large, impressive, and BIG specimen of these elusive Hemimorphites from the Palabanda Quarries in Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) featuring gorgeous glowing sky blue colored radiating aggregates on matrix. If you look at the side of the piece, you can see that the Hemimorphite formed in layers, as there is a distinctive banding that can be seen. The blue color is due to copper content in the Hemimorphites, which makes sense because there are many secondary copper minerals at this locality. You can see there are some spots where the Hemimorphite is stark white, which is due to the fact that there wasn't enough extra copper to completely color the entire specimen. Pieces this size are not common, especially with such a bright blue color, typically they are a bit more subdued in their shade. It has a beautiful three-dimensional form and looks great in the hand and would display wonderfully in a case with the help of a custom base. Valued $2,000.
